Lake Perkolilli Red Dust Revival
Returns for 2025
The Lake Perkolilli Red Dust Revival 2025 celebrates the golden years of outback motor racing from 1914 to 1939. The event runs from 29 September to 5 October 2025. Entry fees apply. All proceeds from camping and spectator entry fees go to Variety, the children’s charity, to help with their good works in the WA community. Tickets for the event are not yet on sale.
Lake Perkolilli is a natural claypan about a 45 minute drive from Kalgoorlie in the Eastern Goldfields of Western Australia. The last part of the drive is on a dirt road and then a bush track. The track is OK for 2WD vehicles.
Lake Perkolilli has no permanent facilities.
Everyone who organises the event does it for fun and we try to keep the event casual and in good spirit. We try our hardest to keep Perko this way. Please be aware that we all live lives away from Perko and appreciate that it is a volunteer run event.
Camping fees apply, and closer to the Red Dust Revival (probably February), details of booking arrangements will be announced. Please don’t ask yet! Note that camping is in the bush in designated areas only and is not allowed on the claypan. This will be strictly enforced. (Exceptions may apply to long distance tourist coaches converted to mobile homes which are unable to get off-road). The camping areas are to the North and North Norwest of the claypan. The Red Dust Revival has the right to ask people in other areas to relocate or leave the event. There is no camping allowed in the bush on the eastern, southern or western sides of the claypan.
It is not possible to pre-book a particular location and all camping is on a first come, first served basis. If you are part of a large group from a caravan or off-road club, please contact the organisers to discuss your needs. Basic services such as water, hot water showers and ablutions are available (and were fantastic last time thanks to the people from Variety that put in a great effort to supply them) but in all other respects it is bush camping. There are no powered sites and if generators are used they must be quiet - not noisy old clunkers - and turned off at a reasonable time. Open fires are not encouraged but enclosed fires are OK.
Woofers and barkers. Pooches are allowed at the Red Dust Revival but the owners must be well-trained to keep their dogs on leads at all times.
There will be prepared food and drinks available for purchase from breakfast to bedtime at the Goldfields Variety bar and with food trucks, and are highly recommended! Excellent coffee will also be available. Nearest supermarkets and servos are at Kalgoorlie/Boulder if you want to resupply.
Yes, if you don’t want to camp at Perko, there are hotels, restaurants, pubs, caravan parks and cafes in Kalgoorlie/Boulder. The mining industry places great demands on the accommodation in town, and spring is a peak time for events in the Goldfields, so you are advised to plan early and book your rooms well ahead of time. Contact the visitor centre for assistance: https://www.kalgoorlietourism.com/.
If you have a light aircraft, you can land on the claypan and camp under your wings.
Day or week-long passes for spectators and campers can be booked closer to the event and details will be announced in February 2025. Parking for spectators will be on the claypan.
